Hello all,
I'm sorry the blog hasn't been so active recently, but once again life happened and I couldn't find the time to update the blog, even though my thoughts have been with all of you!
I'll just jump right into it, I was to my very first Thanksgiving dinner last week. I have never celebrated Thanksgiving, but a group of my friends (an American in the lead) decided that we should have a Swedish version of Thanksgiving. It was loads of fun hanging out with people, but the food...
How can I say this gently, I don't really understand the big deal that is made about Thanksgiving food. It might very well be because I'm a vegetarian and can't eat the main dish - the turkey. But generally I don't really like food that is made for big festive events (I'm not too fond of the Swedish Christmas food either). A friend of mine made a really good vegetarian lasagne, which I believe is not really part of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, but that might have been my favourite dish on the big table of food that we had set up. I was also very pleasantly surprised by green bean casserole - very yummy indeed.
However, anyone who knows me, or even people who may only have glanced over this blog will know that the desserts were where my hopes laid. And there was plenty of it.
I made a pecan pie, the first one I've ever made, and it turned out quite well if I may say so myself. I think I might have over baked it, but that's a story for another time. We had pumpkin pie, which I looooove. We also had tarte tatin (French upside down apple pie), made by the french friend in our group. So it really was all sorts of luxury. I might have rolled out of the place being so full.
All in all, my Thanksgiving experience was very nice, and for the desserts I understand why you would want to celebrate it year after year.
As for the outfit, I really can't take the credit at all. I saw Jenna Coleman wear this pinafore from Miss Patina in Doctor Who as the character Clara Oswald and just had to have it. In the show they had paired the pinafore with a mustard yellow turtle neck, and since mustard yellow is my favourite colour I did the same!

Tights: Primark
Much love to you all!
And Happy December!
I love your outfit and the hairdo! :))
ReplyDeleteAs for Thanksgiving food, I'm not a big fan either. Hahaha However, my mother-in-law made me some delicious vegetarian stuffing! And who could say no to pumpin pie?!<33

Thank you so much Adi darling!
DeleteMaybe then it is the vegetarian thing! Because festive meals like that are made for meat eaters :P
We didn't have vegetarian stuffing unfortunately, but I'm sure that'll be very good. And I agree, pumpkin pie is the best! <3
Much love
Hello Mona! I'm happy to see a new post :) I understand what you say about food in big events, even at Christmas I'm not too fond of the food we have - I just spend the evening eating entire chocolate boxes haha. But it must have been so fun to mix all the food from different countries together!
ReplyDeleteYour dress is super cute, the mustard yellow turtleneck looks great with it! Also, I love how you styled your hair - you look like an Edwardian actress somehow, especially in the last photos!

Hello lovely Julia! Thank you so much!
DeleteHahaha, that sounds like the best idea ever - just eating chocolates! I'm going to start doing that.
It was a lot of fun! The tarte tatin was amazingly delicious!
Thank you so much darling. Aww, you're too kind, thank you so much!
Much love
You're rocking this Clara inspired outfit, looks absolutely amazing on you! I've never celebrated Thanksgiving before (though I eat copious amounts of pumpkin pie anyway) but I may just convince my American friend to host one next year aha xx
ReplyDeleteAww thank you so much darling Andini!
DeletePumpkin pie is sooo good, I understand why you have copious amounts of it ;D
It was really fun!
Much love
Amazing!!! First of all your cake looks delicious. How you make the decoration is incredible :* In addition to that... you are looking gorgeous. Love the outfit as I already told you on Instagram. :)
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much Christine! <3 I think the decoration part is the most fun, so I put effort into it :)
DeleteAww, thank you, you're too sweet!
Much love
This sounds like so much fun Mona! The lasagne sounds so tasty but of course the excitement really starts at pudding! The pie you made looks fantastic and not over cooked in the photos - I bet it tasted amazing too!
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is also so cute, I love the yellow. You look lovely with your hair up like this too.
Hope you're having a good weekend.

It was a lot of fun! And I agree - pudding is excitement!
DeleteAww, thank you! It was alright, I would have baked it maybe 10 minutes less if I could redo it.
Thank you so much darling Emma. You're making me blush.
Thanks, hope your weekend is lovely too.
Much love
you look adorable! I love how yellow suits you - looks like you are sun.

Thank you so very much darling!
DeleteAww, that's so sweet of you to say, thanks! <3

Happy First Thanksgiving! I'm excited that you got to participate in it and get lots of good desserts! In my family, we make a big deal about the main dishes but don't go all out for the desserts, so I loved reading about all the different kinds of things you got to eat! That pecan pie looks soooooo good.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love that you were inspired by Clara for this outfit! Gosh, you're cute in so many ways!
Ahhh thanks! It was so much fun celebrating Thanksgiving! Desserts were the best part so I can't believe you don't go all out, but I suppose if the main dishes are a big deal, there's hardly room for any desserts. I could hardly walk after eating so much!
DeleteThank you, I will put up the recipe on the blog :)
Aww, thanks. Clara is awesome style inspiration, she's always so pretty! Oh, thank you so much my darling, you're too sweet! <3
Much love
That outfit is so cute♥

Thank you so very much!

Yeah, Thanksgiving is all about dessert to me! ;) I would love a vegetarian lasagne for Thanksgiving! I love that dish! I am not vegetarian but I tend to love dishes that are.
ReplyDeleteYeaaas!! I agree with you! Desserts are the best.
DeleteIt was really delicious the lasagne, and I agree that vegetarian dishes are usually very fun and packed with flavour, so I understand that you love it.
Much love!
Haha! I completely agree with you about Thanksgiving food. It is really not that exciting (except for the desserts of course!). Actually, come to think of it, other than the desserts...I don't really like any of it. I would have killed to have a vegetarian lasagna at the Thanksgivings I went too. ;) And your Thanksgiving day outfit is super adorable! I love how you styled your hair too. :) Hope you're having a great week, Mona!

I thought it would be such an unpopular opinion, but apparently loads of people think Thanksgiving food is just so-so. Haha, really? The vegetarian lasagne was very good!
DeleteThank you so very much!
You too, have a lovely week (almost weekend, yay!).
Much love
Oh, you look so darling in this outfit, Mona! Mustard suits you so well. You've got amazing complexion, by the way. Smooth like porcelain and that beautiful glow from within. You look so happy. :) And yes, I enjoy the dessert part of Thanksgiving very, very much (sometimes even more than the main meals haha). That pecan pie is so pretty. Your desserts always look so yummy.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Zoey! I really like mustard!
DeleteOh gosh, thank you so much, I'm blushing now.
Haha, then there's two of us that enjoy the desserts! ;D I just like sweet stuff, so desserts are heaven!
Thank you! You're very sweet. I had a bit of trouble making the pecan pie "pretty", but I at least I tried ;P
Much love
How fun you had your own version of Thanksgiving!! I don't eat the turkey either! This year I made roasted brussels sprouts, spinach salad with persimmon and pear dressing, and roasted sweet potatoes with brown sugar and marshmallows. For dessert, I made vanilla ice cream and a cranberry upside down cake. I include traditional ingredients but prepared in a more modern way. Thanksgiving is really less about the food and more about taking a day to be grateful and spend a day with your closest people. Also, the Macy's Day Parade comes on, and it's quite good. I like to follow it up by watching the classic version of Miracle on 34th Street.
ReplyDeleteLovely outfit! You always look so good!
Thank you Patty! Oh wow, all of that sounds absolutely delicious! I would have loved to have had thanksgiving with you ;)
DeleteYeah, I've come to sense that thanksgiving is more about the people you're with and giving thanks in America. But you have historical reasons for celebrating thanksgiving, where as we only did it for fun and the company of each other.
I love Miracle of 34th street!
Thank you so much, you are so sweet!
