Think Pink

"On Wednesdays we wear pink!"
Also "Banish the black, burn the blue and bury the beige. From now on girls, think pink!"
It is Wednesday, and I am thinking pink.

This is my second vintage dress. It's from the 1950's and it reminds me so of the soft pinky peach dress that Chuck wears in an episode of Pushing Daisies (see below).

This lovely pink dress is my first entirely pink dress since I'm an adult. Pink is a colour I wouldn't really have gone for a while back because I thought it was "girly". Well, I still think it's girly, but I don't necessarily think that girly is a bad thing. Why does everything that has to do with women and girls sound negative? Why can't girly mean just what it means! And why can't "being a woman" mean that you are someone that identifies as a woman, and nothing else?!

I didn't mean for the post to become this, but things like these bother me! Why did I for so many years think that liking a colour was bad? Shame on me!

It's the illusion that girly girls are lesser than their counterparts. But you can be any type of girl or woman and still be equal to other girls and women (and men for that matter). Anyway, it should be that way. Be who you want to be. It's once again the patriarchy that has managed to poison how we think of women. The notion that girls/women that think or act like men should be better or worth more is a big problem! All girls/women should be able to be what, who, how they want to be!

"I am a proud feminist! And I'm quite the girly girl, I like the colour pink, I love bows and polka dots. I love to wear cute stuff and peter pan collars! That doesn't make me any less of a feminist! Everyone can be a feminist!
Everyone should be a feminist!"

Back to the dress. I bought this vintage dress from one of my favourite vintage sellers on Etsy, Jumblelaya. And I got loads of compliments wearing it to work. Someone asked me if it's new, and I didn't know what to answer. I said it was 60 years old!
It certainly doesn't look that old.

I'm sorry this post is such a mess, I just wrote what came to me in quite an inarticulate way.
Hope you are all doing well and and that you are being who you want to be without judgement from anyone!

Much love,

  1. Very cute dress Mona, gorgeous! I agree that pink shouldn't be wrapped up with ideas of weak women; strong independent women (and men!) should be allowed to enjoy wearing the colours they like and not be judged as less for it

  3. You're absolutely right Mona! We throw around the term feminism and the emancipation of women yet whilst doing so we deprive ourselves of the right to be feminine. Wearing pink, ribbons and bows doesn't and shouldn't undermine our strength and intellect. Our proficiency doesn't rely on our choice of clothing or hair colour... heck, you can be a blonde astrophysicist with a love for polka dots! I think you look delightful in pink Mona, actually I may even go as far as to say it is my favorite colour on you! 💟

    1. Yes Exactly!!! Your mind and soul has nothing to do with what you wear! Or if you like polka dots and ribbons! Also, we need to stop making being feminine something that's considered bad.
Oh thank you sweetie. Oh wow, really?
      Thanks darling.

  4. Gosh you're right, I sometimes catch myself thinking whether I'm wearing too much pink but really, what's the problem with that? When did a colour define anything? Anyway, I am in love with this pink vintage number, it suits you so perfectly and you look absolutely beautiful in it. I'm totally giggling at the fact that I just posted an all pink outfit too, it seems we both got the Wednesday memo! <3

    1. Me too! And then I become angry with myself. Pink is feminine and girly and lovely - and that's good!!
Oh thank you so much! It's a very cute dress, couldn't pass it up.
Haha! Indeed - just saw your post! Very... Pink! :D

  5. What a cute dress! And I totally agree with you- I strayed away from the colour pink for years because I thought that girly-girls couldn't be as strong as other girls. But now I'm a full on girly-girl, and I'm ready to go out there and crush the stereotypes that say I can't be strong ♥

  6. I couldn't agree with you more, Mona! This reminds me of that commercial (I think it was a commercial, at least), where they asked people to run "likes girls." And all the adults did these really ditsy things, but the young girls (around age 8) all ran like anyone else and looked strong & fierce. It seems to be something that we're taught over the years that it's bad to be a girly-girl...when in reality, there is nothing wrong with it! Always enjoy hearing your thoughts, Mona!

I also love this dress! I will have to check out that Etsy shop. I really, really want to get a vintage dress. I think it would be incredible to wear a little piece of history. :)

Hope you're having a great week, Mona!

    1. That makes me happy to hear Lindsey! Yes!!! I've seen that commercial and I love it! I agree with you, it's something that we pick up from society. Thank you - always enjoy your input on these things!

Thanks! I follow lots of vintage sellers on IG, that's where you get to see the real beauties first. I think you could find something you really love! Vintage is quite incredible ;)

Thank you! You too, and a great weekend (soon).

  7. You look so cute and happy in this dress! It's in great condition. The color suits you so well. Definitely one of my favorite outfit of yours. If I didn't know any better, I would've though it was new too.

I don't wear pink often and when I do, I'm very picky about the shade of pink I wear. A lot of the time, it doesn't suit my skin tone very well. Sadness!

You can be strong/independent and girly. I know I am. My bf pokes fun at me sometimes when the super girly-girl side of me comes out. I just laugh and tell him (and anyone else), "There's nothing wrong with being girly!"

      Thank you!! <3

I think a nice corally pink would look beautiful on you. I firmly believe that pink works for almost anyone! You just have to find the right shade.

Exactly! Very well said. It's good that you stand up for your girly-ness.

  8. This dress is simply gorgeous! And you rock baby pink :D All you said is so right, society tends to associate girly things with immaturity, foolishness or superficiality. This is wrong, we should be happy to love pink if we do, or to love glitter, bows or cute prints. So I say YES to girly girls :D
