Vintage Joy

Hello all you wonderful, beautiful people.
I hope you are all doing well and that the sun is shining where you are!

The dress I'm wearing is my first ever vintage dress that I've worn (I have two other vintage dresses that I bought before this one, but have yet to wear them). When I saw this dress on instagram I knew I had to have it. The floral print is beautiful, and the nipped in waist gives a gorgeous silhouette. The dress is from Simplicity is Bliss (IG @sibvintage).

One thing that I find is difficult with vintage is to know when to buy and when not to buy. Obviously, since it's vintage the likelihood of ever finding the same dress again is quite small, however you want to still get value for your money and vintage can be quite expensive.

If the vintage dress is my size (or bigger), the rule for me has been that I buy it if I can't stop thinking about it. It won't ever be "restocked" so you need to act fast, so if I find myself thinking about the dress after I've seen it, I will purchase it. How about you? Calling all other vintage-wearing ladies (and gentlemen), how do you decide what to buy when it comes to vintage items?

Dress: Vintage from Simplicity is Bliss
Petticoat: ModCloth (here)
Flats: Machi via ModCloth (Stylish Surprise)

I'm very happy to have ventured into the vintage world! Do you wear vintage? Why? Why not?

Hope you have a splendid rest of the week!
Much love,

  1. This dress is so pretty!! I feel like it's classic and timeless, so awesome find! I have the same rule!!! When I can't stop thinking about something I get it. If I can forget it...sometimes I still get it, haha,...but usually I'll let it go. XO

    1. Thank you so much lovely!
Yeah I think it's very classic too.
Hahaha, yes, I find that even things you can sort of forget about you still find a reason to get it, hehe.
      Much love!

  2. That dress is so gorgeous and fits you perfectly, such a great vintage find! Your hair, makeup and gloves look absolutely flawless with it too, what a beauty! I'm pretty much the same, I try to resist most things as I barely have enough room in my closet but if I think it looks super unique than I usually have to snap it up hehe <3

Hahaha, I'm the same way, my wardrobe is bursting, but I still find myself buying dresses, especially vintage ones. <3

  3. I own a few vintage pieces. I basically buy it if 1) it's a good price 2) it fits perfectly and 3) It's an unusual piece 4) I can think of 3 ways to style it instantly!

This dress looks absolutely divine on you by the way! You've styled it so classically :D

    1. Oh those are good rules to go by. I might start thinking like that instead. Having to think of 3 ways to style it makes it a more well-worn piece. I must try that!
Oh thank you sweet Jen! <3

  4. Yay for your first vintage dress! I don't think there are rules that work for everybody, and especially since you're just starting it's more complicated! My wardrobe is probably about 50% vintage now and I buy when I must have it... Size is important, but price is also very important. For me it's okay to pay more if it's good quality and you can wear it a lot... but I don't buy a lot of "occasion" dresses..

    1. Hehe, yay indeed!
      Wow! That's impressive, 50% vintage!
Yeah, I'm with you on that. I'd be willing to pay a bit more for good quality stuff too. I suppose occasion dresses are what usually catch my eye, hehehe ;P

  5. Congrats on your first vintage dresses! It will become very addictive. :) I think my favorite part of wearing vintage is feeling like I'm preserving a piece of history - taking the story of the woman who wore her before me and adding to it, before passing it on to the next. The construction, the details, it feels like a gift to be entrusted with a vintage dress! Like everyone else, I go with my gut - If I literally gasp when I see a dress, I know I'm in trouble. And if she's my size, well...then I rationalize she was meant to be. :) Can't wait to see more of your vintage pieces!! xxx

    1. Thank you so much lovely Kara! Haha, yes, I can tell.
Aww, that's a very sweet way of looking at it.
Hehe, yes - the gasp! I had that with this dress, I just knew it had to be mine, and then it was my size! Yes exactly! Must be the universe telling me to get the dress if it is in my size!
      Thanks so much! <3

  7. Dearest Mona, firstly congrats on your first vintage dress, I have yet to make mine! Your ebony hair and bold lip are the perfect contrast to this dress and I've said it before and I'll say it again, those dainty gloves add that extra grace to your beautiful dress! I find that when when my heart is set on something and as long as I can pair the item in at least 5 unique ways, then I tend to get good wear out of it and never live to regret it.. unlike so many cases where I've bought the item without the love-factor and because it was inexpensive. You did good Mona, the dress and you are made for each other!

    1. Thank you beautiful Sumeyye! <3 Oh, you'll find it, you'll know it's the perfect first when you see it!
Thank you so much! You're making me blush.
I think I need to implement that rule - 5 ways! I tend to wear things the same way over and over.
Ahh, thank you :3 hehe We really are true lovers, the dress and I.

  9. This dress is gorgeous, I understand why you're obsessed with it! This would make such a pretty wedding guest look. I have only bought two vintage items, and they were both recent vintage. I also think that vintage can be quite expensive, which is funny because after all it's clothing that has already been worn, and which sometimes look worn. I would only pay a lot for old vintage, 50s and older. I guess beautiful, neat vintage pieces don't come that often so it's always a little investment when we get one!

    1. Thank you Julia! I agree, it would make a great wedding guest outfit!
Oh I see. It can really be expensive, and you're right, it does sting a little to pay a lot for something that can look worn.
This dress is from the 50s! I really felt like I needed to invest in it, hehe
Hope you are having a great week.
