Crystal clear

Hello you,
Hope you are all doing great and that you're keeping warm or cool depending on where you live.
Where I live in northern Sweden it is cold (not very, but enough to not be able to photograph outdoors), and I'm keeping warm with blankets and hot cups of tea.

When I was a kid I loved rocks, stones and crystals of all kinds. I used to collect some and at times I would get them all out and arrange them in order of colour, just look at them and be joyful. The little things really make me happy, and I was like that as a child too. The littlest thing could amuse and preoccupy me.

Jeans: Forever 21 (old)
Lipstick: Bésame Cosmetics (here)

This lovely top from Book of Deer with a crystal print reminded me of my box of rocks, and I went searching for them in my old stuff, and to my surprise, my box was still there, with crystals and stones of different shapes, sizes and colours - all living in harmony. It made me happy.

This unique and dreamy top also makes me think of the 70's, and I imagined that it would be what I would wear on the cover of my soul-rock record. Arms outstretched above me, my curly mane billowing behind me, a cross between Freddie Mercury and Erykah Badu. Well, I sure wish anyway...

I think I'm going to go arrange my rocks now.
I hope you all have a fantastic week, take care of yourselves.

Much love,

My first Thanksgiving

Hello all,
I'm sorry the blog hasn't been so active recently, but once again life happened and I couldn't find the time to update the blog, even though my thoughts have been with all of you!

I'll just jump right into it, I was to my very first Thanksgiving dinner last week. I have never celebrated Thanksgiving, but a group of my friends (an American in the lead) decided that we should have a Swedish version of Thanksgiving. It was loads of fun hanging out with people, but the food...

How can I say this gently, I don't really understand the big deal that is made about Thanksgiving food. It might very well be because I'm a vegetarian and can't eat the main dish - the turkey. But generally I don't really like food that is made for big festive events (I'm not too fond of the Swedish Christmas food either). A friend of mine made a really good vegetarian lasagne, which I believe is not really part of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, but that might have been my favourite dish on the big table of food that we had set up. I was also very pleasantly surprised by green bean casserole - very yummy indeed.

However, anyone who knows me, or even people who may only have glanced over this blog will know that the desserts were where my hopes laid. And there was plenty of it.

I made a pecan pie, the first one I've ever made, and it turned out quite well if I may say so myself. I think I might have over baked it, but that's a story for another time. We had pumpkin pie, which I looooove. We also had tarte tatin (French upside down apple pie), made by the french friend in our group. So it really was all sorts of luxury. I might have rolled out of the place being so full.

All in all, my Thanksgiving experience was very nice, and for the desserts I understand why you would want to celebrate it year after year.

As for the outfit, I really can't take the credit at all. I saw Jenna Coleman wear this pinafore from Miss Patina in Doctor Who as the character Clara Oswald and just had to have it. In the show they had paired the pinafore with a mustard yellow turtle neck, and since mustard yellow is my favourite colour I did the same!

Much love to you all!
And Happy December!

A New Decade

The decades I am most inspired by in terms of style are the fifties (especially late fifties) and early sixties. However lately more and more of the later sixties and also the seventies has started to creep into my wardrobe.

This new skirt from Larmoni is the latest addition to my wardrobe. I had been after a corduroy skirt in a yellowish tone for ages when I happened upon this A-line skirt. I just knew it was a match when I saw it. Evidently, it is the most "70's" item of clothing that I own. It is probably also the only seventies-inspired skirt I have, but I like it very much and I have a feeling it will become a staple in my autumn wardrobe.

What decades are you most inspired by when it comes to style? Are you someone that maybe likes to mix the decades and create a unique style?

Jumper: Vila (old), similar from ModCloth (here)
Skirt: Larmoni (here)
Tights: Primark
Shoes: Ecco (here)

By the way, I've had a long discussion about the colour of this skirt. I claim it's some sort of yellow, like ochre, but my Mum and sister say that it's camel. So, I want your opinion, what colour is this skirt? Settle it once and for all.

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday afternoon this early autumn day.
Much love

The origin of my style

Blouse: ModCloth (sold out)

I have recently been thinking about style, and where it comes from. Some time ago ModCloth announced a competition (details: here) where you were to post an outfit inspired by a woman in your life (e.g. mother) in time for Mother's Day. This got me thinking about where my style comes from, and how much of it has been influenced by my mother.

My Mum in yellow with her friends some time in the 70's.

Instantly I knew what outfit I could submit for the competition. I already had everything in my closet, and I didn't even need to search for an appropriate picture of my Mum and her outfits, I knew exactly which one to use!

Blouse: ModCloth (sold out)
Skirt: H&M (very old)

I could have my Mother go into a clothes shop and choose one single item, and the likelihood that it would be the same as I've chosen is big. For some reason when it comes to clothes and style my Mother and I often agree. Is that because I've grown up seeing what my Mother wears?
Maybe, but as any scientific experiment using siblings, I have a sister to compare with, and she does not share our style. So it got me thinking, how much of our tastes are intrinsic and how much is developed?

Like much else clothes, style, fashion and more, are probably a mixture of intrinsic and developed tastes. For me, my major inspirations when it comes to style have been ladies during the 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's. I'm a bit old-fashioned when it comes to clothes, and so is my Mother. And thus we end up liking the same things. I'm just lucky my Mum and I aren't the same age, because we would surely fight over clothes.

Where does your style come from? And how inspired have you been by your mother or other ladies in your life?
