Le Meow

Hello everyone! I'm back!!
I haven't been very good at updating the blog recently, but that will change starting... Now!

I had a (big-ish) presentation at my department about my research project, and I had been preparing for it forever! I felt like I learned how to breathe again after I finished the presentation. My nerves were all over the place, and for months I had it at the back of my mind, so it is definitely a load off my shoulders!

Do you guys get nervous when having a big presentation? How do you "attack" it?

I personally had to almost pretend another persona for myself. I'm not the kind of person that want attention, and I don't take much space. I'm a fairly small person by personality, not physically (although I'm only 1,57m so I'm not very big...) and I think I'm rather mellow.

So when all eyes are on me, I feel like I'm not loud and big enough to carry it. It is definitely something I have to work on though, because in my field we have to present our research and results regularly.

Beret: Larmoni (here)
Dress: Larmoni (old)
Cardigan: ModCloth (old)
Flats: ModCloth (old)

A word about my outfit. I decided to call it "Le Meow" because I always feel like a beret gives an outfit a French feel. And the meow is obvious. This lovely dress from Larmoni was an instant buy for me. I just had to have it when I saw the cute print!

Much love,

  1. I really don't like giving presentations or doing any type of public speaking for that matter though I often had to do them during school and university, it still makes me uncomfortable. Hopefully one day I will tackle my fear. Hope yours went well! Adore your outfit, the cat print is so cute and I love the colour of your beret <3

    1. Ah yes, they make me uncomfortable too. The more you do it the easier it gets... ;) Mine went well thanks :)
Oh thank you :D I really adore the cat print, and I love the beret - makes me feel like a cupcake.

  2. Kitties! What an adorable print. Congratulations on finishing your presentation, you'll feel like a new woman now that the stress is off your shoulders. I'm a mess when it comes to anything like that, unless the presentation is a small group, then it's not too bad. Accepting my university degree at my graduation was a fairly traumatising event - having to walk up to a stage in front of so many people, being looked at... hated it. Haha. I'm glad I don't have to do that again!

  3. Mona 😆 I always think that you look so cool in beret 😍 . . .
Same with you, I don't like to be attention, so every presentation was a hell for me.

Yeah, I can understand that. The attention gets too much.

  4. Berets look so cute on you Mona! These photos are just too cute anyways, you seem to have had fun taking them :D As for presentations, I'm a bit like you. I don't like having the attention on me because I'm so scared people are going to judge every single thing I do. That's the worst :( But I noticed that when you have to defend a project or ideas that you stand by and really feel passionate about, you feel somehow empowered during the presentation, and more confident about it all!

    1. Thank you so much Julia! I love berets!
I did have a lot of fun :) I'm glad it shows!
I totally agree with you, about everything you said. At first I feel quite insecure, but when talking about things you like you become more and more confident and strong. So I think it only demands some practice.

  5. This is such a cute outfit, I love that dress! And I totally know what you mean about presentations, I've gotten better with having all eyes on me lately, but I still have a long way to go as I have always been shy ♥

    1. Thank you so much sweetie! I love the dress too - and I love that the print is rather discrete but quirky.
Yeah, It's not easy, but I think it'll get better with practice.

  6. I love this outfit!! That dress is seriously adorable. As for presentations, I'm terrible at them! I just get so nervous and talk really softly. It's terrible. Thankfully, I'm in a field where I don't have to do it much (if ever).

    1. Thank you so much!! I love the style of the dress and "larmoni" and their other company "The other sparrows" make these dresses in tons of prints!
They're horrible! I talk very quickly when I get nervous. That sounds good then ;D

  7. Firstly welcome back Mona, I wholeheartedly feel your pain! Being a master procrastinator combined with shying away from any form of public speaking means that presentations are my worst nightmare.. any courage and rehearsed eloquence I've mustered prior to the moment goes straight out of the window the minute I step in front of an audience (working in a corner of the lab is my happy place)! On a happier note, you look adorable from head to toe and the dress length really suits you!

    1. Thank you so much darling Sumeyye!
Aww, I feel you. It is hard to remember everything you work on when standing there in front of people. Hahaha, I love working in the lab too ;D
Thank you so much lovely lady! It's a bit short, but when it's warm it's fine I think.

  8. This outfit is perfection!! I love the print of the sweet dress and the beret and shoes are such nice pops of colors!

And I feel you on the public speaking! I'm quite shy, which people think is strange since I'm a teacher and run a special program at my school that involves lots of events with parents and community!

    1. Oh thank you lovely! I adore the print too - it's discrete while being quirky which I just love about it. Thanks!

I can see how a teacher can be shy though. Being shy doesn't necessarily mean that you can't do public things, you might just be more uncomfortable than a person that's not shy.

  9. I love the pop of pink the beret adds to this outfit - it's the perfect touch!

I get nervous when I have to host what we call Staff Briefings right before a tradeshow. What that is basically is a conference call where I show a power point presentation that shows all staff members who plan to attend the show my plans and other important items. Even though it's all on the phone, I get so nervous because I talk very fast and have to focus to talk slow. It's always nerve wracking when all eyes (or ears) are on you - just gotta breathe through it and know they are not there to judge you but to learn from you!

    1. Thank you so much beautiful! I love berets! Easy way to add some colour!

Oh wow, yes that sounds like it could be nerve wracking! I get nervous only speaking on phones, so doing it "in front" of people - gosh! I wouldn't manage very well. I speak at a normal pace when I'm fine, but when I get nervous I speed things up, so I have to think about speaking slowly as well as relaxing.
But that's exactly right, you're there for people to learn from you! So you should just take things easy and keep calm.

  10. Public speaking of any kind is the worst. I honestly haven't figured out a good way to tackle it for myself yet. But I am so glad your presentation went well and is a load off your shoulders now! And your outfit is so gosh darn cute! The print on your dress is the best! And I love how well you pull berets off! :)

    1. Yeah - it's difficult to know what to do when all eyes are on you! You panic, but really just taking things easy and staying calm helps a lot!
Thank you! I'm so happy it's over :D
Aww, thanks! The print really is the best! Ohhh <3 thank you, berets and I, we have so much love for each other ;D haha
