Midnight Sun

This past Friday was Midsummer's Eve, which we celebrate in a serious way here in Sweden. I wrote about our Midsummer festivities last year in the post Long summer days and berry cakes.

One thing that is essential for Midsommar (as we call it) is strawberries. The prices of Swedish strawberries doubles around the time of Midsummer. No one cares. Strawberries are a must.

This outfit has the same colour scheme of strawberries, with the red and green.
This dress is my first and, so far, only dress from Bernie Dexter. It also happened to be the very first dress that I bought from ModCloth (back when ModCloth sold Bernie Dexter), and it's the dress that introduced me to vintage style. For all of those reasons this dress is one of my favourites.

If you've been following me on Instagram (@curlsncakes) for a long time you might've seen this dress on me previously. It was the dress I was wearing in my first post on Instagram! So this dress means a lot to me.

My sister and I photographed this dress in the evening at around eight or nine pm, but as you can see the sun was still high in the sky. I love summer in northern Sweden. It's bright day and night. The white nights are one of my favourite times of the year.

I hope you all are having a splendid Summer so far!

  1. Oh my, that's really amaze me the fact that Sweden and Norway have bright night in summer. I just wonder about your sleep time.

You look like a blooming flower with that outfit. The top side of the dress really "flowery", and the headpiece make it perfect. So beautiful you are. Aw, so lovely. Just in love with this look.

Happy midsummer. We're in Indonesia had a "pancaroba", the time when the season is changing with a few days of storm (hard raining and hard wind blowing).

    1. It is quite cool to have bright nights ;) Oh we sleep when we're supposed to sleep, but you have curtains that darken.

Oh thanks so much. I really like the hat with this dress. Aww, Wening you're making me blush - thank you my darling!

Thank you! Oh that sounds quite unpleasant with hard rain and stormy weather. Hope it'll blow over soon.

  10. These photos are simply magical! I can't believe how bright it is at 8/9 in Sweden! That was one of the more surprising parts about my move, it gets dark out well before 8 at this time of year...and back home it would stay light until almost 9 too.

And oh my goodness! How gorgeous is this dress! It looks like to was made just for you! I really will need to check out some Bernie Dexter dresses some day!

Hope you're having a great week, Mona! :)

  12. Oh man! So fun to learn about both some of Sweden's festivities as well as the history you have with this dress! I'm somewhat surprised to learn this is your only Bernie!! This was definitely made for you! And...I miss ModCloth selling Bernie! When they would slash prices to $49.99...ugh...best days ever! Haha. XO

  14. I loved my holiday in Sweden (couple of years ago).. driving around with my friends, enjoying the nature, the scenery, the coast, the food, the cities! And yes.. the sunlight is quite special! :)

Love the pretty dress, looks so sweet and pretty on you! Any reason why strawberries are so important for the Midsummer Festivities?
